Petrochemical plants don’t leave much room for error. When a facility handles volatile hydrocarbons around the clock, the buildings that protect people and control systems have to hold up under the worst day imaginable. We recently completed a project that addresses exactly this, delivering automated blast resistant doors for DMP Nirman Pvt Ltd at the Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd complex in Haldia, West Bengal.
About the Project
DMP Nirman Pvt Ltd was executing a critical package at the Haldia site and needed doors that could meet strict safety requirements without slowing down daily operations. The brief was clear. The doors had to withstand blast loads, open and close reliably, and suit a busy industrial environment where personnel and equipment move constantly.
Ecotone Systems took on the design, manufacturing and delivery of the complete door package. Our team worked closely with the client from the early engineering stage so the final product matched site conditions and the project’s safety philosophy.
Why Automation Matters
A standard blast resistant door is heavy by design. That weight is what makes it protective, but it also makes manual operation tiring and slow, especially at high-traffic entry points. What We Delivered
Each door was fabricated from heavy-gauge steel with reinforced frames and engineered to perform under the specified blast loading. Our design focused on a few core priorities:
Structural Strength: The door leaf, frame and anchoring work as one system. A strong leaf means little if the frame fails first, so we engineered all three together.
Reliable Automation: The drive system was selected for industrial duty, with controls built to keep working in demanding conditions. Manual override provisions were included so the doors can still be operated if power is interrupted.
Sealing and Fit: Precise tolerances and quality gaskets help the doors close tightly, supporting the protection of the space behind them.
Durable Finish: Haldia sits in a coastal, humid region. Our coating system was chosen to resist corrosion and keep the doors performing over the long term.
Quality Checks and Delivery
Every door went through in-house inspection at our facility before dispatch. We checked dimensions, weld quality, hardware fitment and automation function. Testing the automated blast resistant doors before they leave the factory means fewer surprises on site and a smoother installation.
Our installation team then handled mounting, alignment and commissioning at Haldia. Working inside an operating petrochemical complex calls for discipline, and the team followed site safety procedures throughout. The project was completed to the client’s satisfaction, and the doors are now in service.
