We are pleased to announce the successful completion of an acoustic enclosure project executed for Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited at their Automotive Test Systems facility in Yarandahalli, Karnataka. The enclosure was engineered to house a critical piece of testing machinery, with the primary objective of controlling noise emissions while ensuring the equipment could operate reliably under continuous test cycles.

As electric vehicle testing infrastructure continues to expand across India, facilities like this one require environments that not only meet stringent performance benchmarks but also comply with workplace noise regulations and support a safer, more comfortable working environment for on-site personnel. This project was undertaken with exactly that dual mandate in mind — acoustic control without compromising operational efficiency.

Project Scope and Engineering Approach

The enclosure was custom-designed around the machine’s footprint, operational envelope, and access requirements. Our engineering team began with a detailed site assessment at the Yarandahalli facility, capturing noise source characteristics, ambient sound levels, ventilation needs, and maintenance access points. This groundwork ensured the final enclosure design was tailored precisely to the client’s operational workflow rather than being a generic off-the-shelf solution.

Key elements of the design and build included:

  • Modular Panel Construction: The enclosure was built using modular acoustic panels, allowing for ease of assembly, future reconfiguration, and straightforward maintenance access without compromising the structural or acoustic integrity of the system.
  • Multi-Layer Acoustic Treatment: Panels were constructed with sound-absorbing and sound-insulating layers to attenuate both airborne and structure-borne noise generated during machine operation.
  • Ventilation and Thermal Management: Acoustic louvers and silencers were integrated into the enclosure to allow adequate airflow for cooling the machine while minimizing noise leakage — a critical balance in high-duty-cycle test environments.
  • Access Doors and Viewing Panels: Acoustic-rated doors and, where required, viewing windows were incorporated to support operator access, visual monitoring, and routine maintenance without disrupting the enclosure’s noise control performance.
  • Structural Integration: The enclosure frame and mounting were engineered to integrate seamlessly with the existing facility layout at Yarandahalli, respecting space constraints and existing utility routing.

Execution and Installation

The project moved through design validation, fabrication, and on-site installation phases in close coordination with the Mahindra Electric Mobility team. On-site installation was carried out with minimal disruption to ongoing facility operations, and the team ensured all safety and quality protocols were adhered to throughout execution. Post-installation, the enclosure was checked for fit, functionality, and acoustic performance to confirm it met the project’s design intent.

Outcomes

With the enclosure now operational, the facility benefits from:

  • Significantly reduced noise levels in and around the test machine area
  • Improved working conditions for personnel operating in proximity to the equipment
  • Better alignment with occupational noise exposure norms
  • A durable, low-maintenance enclosure structure built for long-term use in an active testing environment
